As described in the City of Asheville’s recent blog post, the Homeless Initiative is using social media to provide the Asheville-Buncombe community greater access to our activities  & events and encourage engagement with our projects and partners.

We are also taking a look at community access to social media.  In partnership with the community, we will learn what types of communication tools, communication styles, and access to social media people need and want, specifically in relation to people who have very limited resources and no “home-base” because they are experiencing homelessness.

In the meantime, we’ve started a list of resources for people who do not have access to a computer and internet.  If you have information that could add to the list, please comment on this blog.

FREE Computers & Internet accessible to the Community:

  • Buncombe County Libraries (first come, first serve) – a library card is needed. To acquire a library card, a person needs to bring in a picture ID of some type and proof of address (if on shelter letterhead, a letter from a shelter counts as proof of address).

Cafe/Bookstores with computers & internet available to patrons:
